Walking in a winter wonderland

Hello! This week is Christmas so I decided to use the lyrics ‘Walking in a winter wonderland’ as my theme for this weeks art journal page.

I decided that I wanted to make a winter scene to go along with my quote. I painted my background in a grey color, mixing it with a small amount of blue. I put white gesso on my paint brush with water and splashed the background, creating a snow effect. I decided to make my background purely snowflakes and used three different snowflake stamps to create the my idea, stamping all of the background with my snowflake stamp used with a white ink pad from tsukineko. I drew out snowflakes, eight small trees and one big tree and a few small stars. I outlined them with my black Graphix pen and colored them with my aquapen watercolors, choosing different shades of green for my trees. I stuck them all down and then stamped additional snowflakes all over the embellishments for effect, I also splashed them with white gesso and water individually too, to give the effect of snow falling over them.

For my quote page, I cut out a piece of watercolor paper and sprayed it with blue dylusions spray and then used my snowflake mask, spraying white dylusions spray over the top and peeling it off to give the picture of a snowflake. I again stamped with my white ink pad snowflakes all over the card. I cut out another piece of watercolor paper, coloring with blue aqua watercolor pens and stamping my quote on them using a dovecraft set of stamps and my archival black ink pad. I cut out the words individually and bordered them with my ink pad so that they would stand out. To make my page look complete, I drew two big stars, taking reference from the star the three wise men followed. I colored them with my watercolor pens again and outlined them with my graphix pen. To complete the page I stamped more white snowflakes over my stars.

Merry Christmas!
