I’ve got the magic in me

My quote this week is “I’ve got the magic in me” from the song Magic by B.O.B.

For my background I decided to go crazy with stamping and stenciling. I used my dylusions ink as paint and painted it onto the page with a paintbrush. I used a blue dylusions ink for my main page and a pink/red dylusions ink for my quote page. I wanted my background to look chaotic to go along with the theme of magic. Firstly I used my Tim Holtz diamond stencil, stenciling it onto the background with white gesso. I used Tim Holtz stamps with white stamping ink for the background too, I used a diamond stamp and a numbers stamp. I also used some black archival ink with the diamond stamps. I also used a dylusions flower stamp around the sides with my white ink. I also splashed white gesso onto the background with a paintbrush to create a sprinkled effect.

For my main picture page I drew a wizards hat and flying books. I used watercolor paper and drew them using my graphix black pen. I colored them with watercolors that I used from my spectrum Aqua pens and highlighted certain points on my hat with a signo white gel pen. For the wizards hat I stamped stars on it with my Tim Holtz small star stamp, using white stamping ink and black archival stamping ink. For my flying books I used a Tim Holtz letter stamp over the whole of the book, stamping it in white stamping ink. I did two 3D stars to fill up some space at the corners of the page. I drew six stars and colored them oranges and yellows in watercolor with my aqua spectrum pens and positioned three stars together with 3d foam stickers to create a 3d effect look.

For my quote page I painted a piece of watercolor paper a dark red to go with the background, I stamped diamonds onto it with white stamping ink and then painted a black border around the sides with acrylic paint. I used my white stamping ink again to stamp small stars all around the border. For the small picture next to the quote I chose a genies lamp because it reminded me of magic. I drew a genie lamp on watercolor paper with my graphix pen and colored it in watercolors from my spectrum aqua pens. I also decided to draw smoke clouds and drew five of them in different shapes on watercolor paper with my graphix pen. I blended the watercolors together in my smoke drawings for a colorful effect. I again used the Tim Holtz small star stamp to stamp all over my smoke clouds and my genie lamp.

Thank you for reading. I also just started an Instagram where I show my work as its being made and some of the other art I do. My name is mermaidenart, check it out if you are interested.
