For my quote this week I chose ‘I know a place where the grass is really greener’ from the song ‘California gurls’ by katy perry
For my background I used a blue liquitex paint on both pages. I then used modelling paste through a dylusions flower stencil and once It had dried used a dylusions flower stamp with archival black ink over parts of the background, sometimes layering it over the dried modelling paste flowers. I also used a leaf stamp, a butterfly stamp and a bumble bee stamp on my background to add additional texture.
For my main page I cut out the watercolor paper in the shape of grass and then used five different shades of Pentel oil pastels, blending them all together to create a grassy effect. I then used white modelling paste through a dylusions stem stencil over all of the grass. Once it had dried I used different insect stamps from my Inkadinkado insect clear stamps set to add texture to my grass and make it look more realistic of a garden. I stamped them on using my black archival ink. I then drew two large flowers on my watercolor paper and used my uni-ball signo glitter pens to color in the petals. I then drew a second set of petals and layered them underneath to create a 3D effect and then positioned them at the top of my grass as if they were growing there. I then drew a smaller flower to go at the bottom of my grass and colored it in with the glitter pens.
For my quote page I repeated what I did for my main page with the grass, using the same set of insect stamps and the dylusions stem stencil with modelling paste. I then cut out a piece of watercolor paper and colored it with my blue aqua spectrum watercolor pens, adding water and drying with a heat gun as the water came into contact with the page to create an effect. I then took another piece of watercolor paper and used a pink aqua spectrum watercolor pen, using the same heat gun water effect. I then stamped on the quote using dovecraft letter stamps with black archival ink. I then cut out the words individually and stuck them down on top of the quote background. I then drew a dragonfly and a flower onto the watercolor paper and colored them in with the uni-ball signo glitter pens like I did on the previous page, making the flower 3D by drawing two sets of petals. I then positioned the flower as if It was growing in the grass and stuck the quote down over the dragonfly’s wing.
As a finishing touch I went over the dragonfly and flower from my quote page with my american crafts metallic pens, drawing dots on the wings and petals. I also used paperchase glitter pens on a piece of watercolor paper and then stamped over it with a script stamp using archival ink, I then cut out butterflies with my butterfly paper cutter and stuck them all around both pages.
