Stinging like a bee, I earned my stripes

My quote this week is “Stinging like a bee, I earned my stripes” from Katy Perry’s song Roar.

For my background I used yellow and black liquitex paint to paint stripes on the background. I then used deco art glitter paint to paint over the background once it had dried to add sparkle. I then mixed liquitex white modelling paste with the deco art glitter paint to create a glittery modelling paste and used it through the dylusions stem stencil creating texture. I also used white gesso through a flower stencil on the background to add additional texture. I then used my dylusions flower stamp with crystal craft black ink and a bee stamp  from an Inkadinkado stamp set, stamping it on the yellow parts of the background. I then used a crystal craft metallic ink pad with the bee stamp to stamp it onto the black parts of the background.

For my main picture I drew six flowers and two bees. I drew a flower and then traced six more flowers so that they were all the same shape, and therefore they could all line up in a row together evenly. I colored them with my aqua spectrum watercolor pens and blended the colors together. When they had dried I painted over them with art deco glitter paint so that they were glittery like the background and stamped them with a different insect each from my Inkadinkado stamp set using black archival ink. I then drew two bees, both different shapes. I colored them with pro markers and spectrum noir pens and then painted over them with deco art glitter. I positioned them as if they were flying into the flowers.

For my quote page as I was doing a larger quote than usual I cut out two pieces of watercolor paper, coloring black and yellow lines onto them  with alcohol markers to match the background. I then used the art deco glitter paint over the stripes to again go with the background and then used gesso through a flower stencil like I did on the background to create texture to the background of my quote. I then used my spectrum aqua pens in an orange color on a piece of watercolor paper and then again covered it with glitter one it had dried. I stamped the letters on with my dovecraft letter stamps using crystal craft black ink and then cut the letters out individually and glued them onto the striped backgrounds. I drew a branch and a beehive to go next to my quote.I used spectrum aqua pen watercolors to color the beehive and branch and then stamped bees onto the beehive using black archival ink and used leaves from a dylusions stencil with white gesso on the branch. I then drew another bee like my two previous ones, positioning it next to the beehive.

As a finishing touch I added dots to everything. I used a white signo gel pen, a black graphix pen and a purple, silver and gold american crafts metallic pen.
