Tranquil as the forest

My post last week was the final page of my art journal so this week I have started a new art journal! Instead of buying the same kind of art journal I bought one that opened a different way so I can get creative in a different way. I will continue with the lyrics but am going along the theme of Disney lyrics as most of them are just wonderful to illustrate. So my quote for this week is ‘Tranquil as a forest’ from the song ‘I’ll make a man out of you’ from the Disney film Mulan.

For my background I used four different greens, applying them in wide stripes across the page. I used three different shades of green liquitex green acrylic paint and one shade of Daveliou green acrylic paint. I then mixed Pebeo studio acrylics modelling paste with one shade of the green liquitex acrylic paint and pink glitter, once it was all mixed together I put it through a dylusions vine stencil over both of the pages. I then stamped over both pages with flower stamps from the stamp sets ‘Enjoy the ride’ and ‘Live the life you love’ from Molly and Rex and a flower from a recollections stamp set. I stamped down the different images of flowers on both pages using my black archival ink.

For my main page I drew three trees, I drew the leaves and the bark separately. I drew two layers of leaves and three tree trunks. I drew them on watercolor paper and colored them with my aqua spectrum watercolors in different shades of greens for leaves and browns for the trunks. I added the water to the watercolor as I dried it with my heat gun to create a special dried effect. Once that had dried I used pebeo studio acrylics modelling paste through a tim holtz flower stencil on the tree trunks and used butterfly stencil on the leaves with the modelling paste. Once they had dried I used different butterfly stamps to stamp over the tree trunks, using a different butterfly stamp for each, stamping them down with black archival ink. For the leaves I used a butterfly stamp from the Molly and rex stamp set ‘Live the life you love’.

For my quote page I drew another three tree trunks and two more layers of leaves. I decorated them in the same way as I did with the main page. For the quote I cut out a square from a manila tag and cut off the edges. I then sprayed the tag with blue dylusions spray, putting modelling paste through a dylusions leaf stencil when the dylusions spray had dried. Once the modelling paste dried I stamped over it with a flower from the Molly and Rex stamp set. I then colored a piece of watercolor paper with yellow and pink dylusions spray and once it had dried stamped on my quote with dovecraft letters using black archival ink. I then cut out the words separately, bordered it with the side of the black archival ink and stuck them onto the tag.

As a finishing touch I outlined all of the trunks and leaves with a promarker. I also colored a separate piece of paper with pink dylusions spray. I then stamped on the paper with an Art-C text stamp using black archival ink and then used my butterfly paper cutter to cut out butterflies and stuck them around my page.
